CBT: Compulsory Basic Training

If you are 16 or over and want to ride a moped, scooter or motorcycle on the road you must have completed a (CBT) compulsory basic training course to validate your provisional licence.
The CBT is broken up into five elements, the five elements are:
A. introduction
B. practical on-site training
C. practical on-site riding
D. practical on-road training
E. practical on-road riding
Once all of these elements are completed, in order, you will receive a DL196 form
which proves you have taken and completed the course successfully. The DL196
also validates your provisional entitlement to ride a moped or 125cc motorcycle on the road, with L-plates. This form lasts for two years and must be renewed after that time.
A CBT can usually be completed in a day, depending on ability, weather conditions and the amount of pupils training at one time.
